Clean your engagement ring regularly–at home and professionally
"It's important to keep your diamond clean, as buildup of dirt or oil can block the light interactions in the stone, which would make its beautiful cut pointless. At-home cleanings can help get rid of some debris and buildup, but regular professional cleanings are the best way to keep your diamond in top condition.
Cleaning your diamond at home is a simple process. Just drop it into a mug of lukewarm water mixed with a few drops of mild or Ivory soap and let it sit for a few minutes. You can even leave it overnight if you like. Then, gently scrub the stone and basket with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Rinse the diamond and pat it dry with a lint-free cloth, or blow dry it if you're in a hurry. It's recommended that you clean your diamond at least once every few weeks.
